We are currently operating in the Lutheran Church of our Saviour, located at 132 Jefferson Ave, Mineola, NY 11501.

Our History

Faith Mission Inc. was born in the 1960s out of the dreams of Deacon Edward and Mary Joesten and their concern for those less fortunate. Their vision was to fill an empty belly, and then nourish a hungry soul.

Formed in 1969 by Mary and her late husband Ed, Faith Mission Inc. began as a soup kitchen in South Jamaica, Queens. In 1993, the Faith Mission Crisis Center, a detoxification facility, was opened with a $1.3 million grant from the NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. That facility continues to operate in Jamaica, Queens, although as a separate corporation. In 1999, Faith Mission Inc. opened a soup kitchen in Freeport, which was later moved to Roosevelt, and later opened a second soup kitchen in Hempstead. Pursuant to a subsequent corporate reorganization, those two facilities are currently operated by a separate corporation not affiliated with Faith Mission, Inc.
